Magnesium Hydroxide
Magnesium hydroxide is one of those quietly versatile ingredients that earns its place in a wide range of formulations. As a mild, non-irritating alkali, it's used to neutralise acids and adjust pH in both cosmetic and food-grade applications — making it a useful tool for formulators who need controlled, gentle pH correction without the harshness of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
In personal care, magnesium hydroxide has found a strong following as a natural deodorant active. It works by creating a slightly alkaline environment on the skin that inhibits odour-causing bacteria without blocking pores or using aluminium compounds — making it popular in clean beauty formulations and zero-waste deodorant bars, creams and sticks. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin and pairs well with arrowroot powder, tapioca starch and natural waxes.
In food applications, magnesium hydroxide is approved as a food additive (INS 528) and functions as an acidity regulator and firming agent. It's used in cocoa processing, some dairy applications, and as an antacid ingredient in functional food and supplement formulations. Our food-grade magnesium hydroxide meets purity standards for use in both human food and nutraceutical products.
