Kawakawa Infused Olive Oil - High Potency

INCI: Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil (and) Macropiper Excelsum (Kawakawa) Extract.

Kawakawa Infused Olive Oil is a high-potency, handcrafted infused oil produced by maceration and percolation of sustainably wild-harvested Kawakawa leaves in pure Olive Oil. It is a rich dark green oil with a characteristic mild herbal odour, supplied ready to use as an oil-phase ingredient — note that the depth of colour will carry through into a finished product.

Kawakawa is New Zealand Aotearoa’s native Pepper tree, so called for the distinct sweet peppery taste of the leaves, seeds and fruit. Kawakawa has long-standing cultural and historical significance, particularly within rongoā (traditional Māori medicine), as Māori used Kawakawa leaves for a wide variety of purposes, including poultices, balms and oil infusions of the leaves.

The infused oil carries alkaloids, antioxidants and lignans from the leaf alongside the essential fatty acids of the carrier, which contribute to skin moisturisation and support the look and feel of the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

The leaves contain elemicin, piperchabamide, myristicin and diayangambin, which give rise to the characteristic numbing sensation in the mouth and contribute to the antioxidant character of the oil.

Applications:

an oil-phase or anhydrous ingredient for products for skin and hair. It can be formulated into balms, body butters, creams, lotions, sticks, soaps, oil blends and gels, including massage, sports, muscle and joint care formats, and leave-on products for dry or rough-feeling skin.

Also used in sports, muscle and joint care formats such as massage oils, rubs and balms.
