INCI: Disodium EDTA Disodium EDTA is a sequestering agent in powder form (also known as a chelant, or chelating agent). It is water soluble and is added to the water phase, where it binds metal ion impurities such as iron, magnesium and calcium into an inert soluble complex, so they are not free to interact with other ingredients.

Disodium EDTA has many uses from food to personal care products. Common uses include:

• Shampoos Sequestering agent in shampoos & cleaners to improve stability

• Textile Industry — binds metal ion impurities so they cannot modify the colour of dyed products

• Foods — antioxidant synergist in some foods, binding the trace metals that catalyse oxidative discolouration

• Laundry Used to remove water hardness in laundry applications

• Boilers — controls scale formation caused by water hardness

• Blood Test Used in blood analysis

• Titrations Used in complexometric titrations and analysis of water hardness
