Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (Syn-Coll equivalent)

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 is a highly bioactive collagen-stimulating peptide. Rather than supplying collagen to the skin, it works by mimicking the body's own signal for collagen production — activating the natural pathway that prompts fibroblasts to build new collagen. It is one of the better-supported collagen peptides in cosmetic use and works on all skin types.

Supplied in a glycerin base as a preservative-free liquid, ready to blend into water-based formulations.

How to use

• Use level: 1–5% of your total formula, with 3% recommended.
• Shake well before use.
• Add at the final step of your formulation, once the mixture is below 40°C.
• Water-miscible. Note that on dilution with a large amount of water the solution may go slightly opalescent or turbid — this is normal for this material and does not indicate loss of activity.
• This material is preservative-free. Any water-containing formula you make with it needs a broad-spectrum preservative.
• Do not apply neat to the skin — this is a formulation additive. Always blend into a serum, gel or cream and patch test the finished formula.

In a supplier trial of 60 subjects using this material at 2.5%, applied twice daily for 84 days, the majority showed a measurable reduction in wrinkle appearance. Results depend on individual skin type and on the full formulation.

Formulating with it

Pairs well with Hexapeptide-9 and the Matrixyl-family peptides for a multi-pathway collagen approach, and sits comfortably alongside expression-line peptides such as SNAP-8 and Argireline in a combined anti-ageing serum. Well suited to firming serums, neck and décolletage treatments and mature-skin moisturisers.
