DHHB (Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate) — UVA Filter

INCI: Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (DHHB)

DHHB — also known by the trade name Uvinul A Plus — is one of the most effective oil-soluble UVA filters available to formulators. It targets the longer UVA wavelengths (peak absorption around 354 nm) that are strongly associated with skin ageing, pigmentation and long-term sun damage, making it a key building block for genuine broad-spectrum protection.

Its standout quality is stability: DHHB is highly photostable and does not break down in sunlight the way some UVA filters do. Because of this it is widely used to photostabilise avobenzone and to support and round out other filters in a sunscreen system, helping a finished product hold its rated protection for longer.

Form: supplied as a fine powder (the powdered grade, not granular). It is oil-soluble and dissolves into the oil phase of an emulsion.

Typical uses: daily sunscreens, facial SPF, day creams, tinted moisturisers, BB/CC creams and after-sun care.

How to use: add to the oil/heated phase and stir until fully dissolved. Commonly used at up to 10%, adjusted to the target protection level and the rest of the filter system.

Please note: sunscreens are a regulated product category. In New Zealand and Australia, finished sunscreens and their SPF claims fall under the sunscreen standard AS/NZS 2604 — please formulate, test and label accordingly.
