C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate (i.e. Finsolv TN) is an emollient ester of benzoic acid with C12-15 alcohols, supplied as a practically odourless liquid. It is water insoluble and readily emulsifiable. In a formulation
Solubiliser — a strong solubiliser of lipophilic cosmetic raw materials, especially crystalline UV filters and volatile silicones.
Spreading — high positive spreading coefficient, which makes it an effective anti-tack agent.
Skin feel — imparts a dry, lubricating feel even in the presence of large amounts of mineral oil or petrolatum.
Powders — wetting agent and auxiliary suspending agent for water insoluble powdered products. It is non-toxic, non-irritating, non-sensitising and non-comedogenic, making it suitable for a variety of skin types. It reduces the whitening that sunscreen agents and volatile silicones can give on the skin.
