Black Himalayan Volcanic Rock Salt is chemically similar to table salt. It contains up to 98 percent sodium chloride. The rest of the salt consists of trace minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium. These give the salt its purplish-black tint.
Himalayan black salt may also be called Indian black salt, or kala namak.
With a pungent, savory, and "umami" flavor savoury or meaty flavor), it is commonly used in cooking, especially in Asian and Indian cuisine.
Additionally, due to its subtle, sulfurous aroma similar to eggs, it’s used in vegan cooking to provide an egg-like flavor.
Black salt stimulates bile production in the liver, and helps control heartburn and bloating. It restricts acid levels and reduces reflux.
For skincare Himalayan black salt is useful for products such as salt scrubs and exfoliants, as well as salt sprays. It is helpful for skin conditions such as dry and cracked heels, calluses, inflamed and itchy skin, and may help with psoriasis, eczema and athletes foot.
