INCI: Benzalkonium Chloride, Aqua. Benzalkonium Chloride 50% Solution is a cationic quaternary ammonium surfactant. The pure product is a white crystalline powder (as per the image) however, it is supplied as a 50% or 80% solution. It functions as a preservative and as a hard surface disinfectant — effective against bacteria, yeast and mould in a formulation — and as a cationic surfactant with substantivity to surfaces and fibres. Common uses include:

Preservation Used as a preservative in aqueous formulations, including eye, ear and nasal preparations

Personal Care Used in wet wipes & hand sanitizers

After Shave Used in after shaves & hair care & skin care products

Oral care Used as a biocide in mouthwashes







Laundry Used in detergent sanitizer for cleaning and as softener in textiles

Cleaners Used as a disinfectant in hard surface cleaning solutions

House wash Used in conjunction with detergents to remove moss, mould & dirt

Algae Cleaner Used to clean algae, moss from swimming pools and roofing
