Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a strong natural conditioning agent and emulsifier. BTMS-50 is a blend of Behentrimonium methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol and butylene glycol, and is supplied in pellets. BTMS-50 is derived from vegetable oils such as canola, coconut or sunflower. Typical use rates are 1- 10% depending on the type of product being made and function; lower levels are used if BTMS-50 is being used as an emulsifier (1 - 6%) and higher levels for conditioning (2 - 10%).
Simple 1-pot Conditioner
Water to 100%
0.25 - 1% Cationic Guar Gum
1 - 3% Propanediol
2 - 4% BTMS 50
3 - 5% Cetyl alcohol
Heat the above ingredients to 80C, then blend with a stick mixer until a bright, glossy and white emulsion forms. Cool with stirring to 40C, then add
0.5 - 2% Hydrolysed Rice Protein
1% Geogard ECT
Cool with stirring to 25C, adjust pH to 3.0 - 4.0 and pack off into a pump bottle, Increase or decrease the levels of ingredients depending on the degree of conditioning that is required.
Common uses include;
Hand & Nail Creams - BTMS-50 is particularly good for deep conditioning hand and nail creams
Face and Body Creams - BTMS-50 can be used to make creams and lotions, as the main emulsifier
Exfoliants and scrubs - Emulsifier and suspending agent for face and body scrubs
Haircare Main - emulsifier and conditioner for hair conditioners, masques and treatments
