Behentrimonium methosulphate - BTMS-25
Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a strong conditioning agent and emulsifier. BTMS-25 is a blend of Behentrimonium methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol, and is supplied in pellets. BTMS-25 is derived from vegetable oils such as canola, coconut or sunflower. Typical use rates are 2- 20% depending on the type of product being made and function; lower levels are used if BTMS-25 is being used as an emulsifier (2 - 8%) and higher levels for intense conditioning (5 - 20%).
Simple 1-pot Conditioner
Water to 100%
0.25 - 1% Cationic Guar Gum
1 - 3% Propanediol
3 - 6% BTMS 25
2 - 4% Cetyl alcohol
Heat the above ingredients to 80C, then blend with a stick mixer until a bright, glossy and white emulsion forms. Cool with stirring to 40C, then add
0.5 - 2% Hydrolysed Rice Protein
1% Geogard ECT
Cool with stirring to 25C, adjust pH to 3.0 - 4.0 and pack off into a pump bottle, Increase or decrease the levels of ingredients depending on the degree of conditioning that is required.
Common uses include;
Hand & Nail Creams - BTMS-25 is particularly good for deep conditioning hand and nail creams
Face and Body Creams - BTMS-25 can be used to make creams and lotions, as the main emulsifier
Exfoliants and scrubs - Emulsifier and suspending agent for face and body scrubs
Haircare - Main emulsifier and conditioner for hair conditioners, masques and treatments
